Olympics 2020 Handball Venue
Handball at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will take place at the Yoyogi National Stadium, which has also hosted Asian Basketball Championships, the first ever NHL ice hockey regular season game outside of North America, the 1985 World Figure Skating Championships, the 2006 & 2012 Women’s Volleyball World Championships and a Westlife concert.
Olympics 2020 Handball Format
Twelve teams will compete in both the men’s and women’s competitions at Tokyo 2020. Teams will begin in a group phase with the top eight nations progressing into the knockout phase of the tournament.
Olympics – Handball History
The game was classified toward the finish of the nineteenth century in Denmark. The advanced arrangement of rules was distributed in 1917 in Germany, and had a few updates since. The primary universal games were played under these guidelines for men in 1925 and for ladies in 1930.
Men’s handball was first played at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin as outside, and whenever at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich as inside, and has been an Olympic game since. Ladies’ group handball was included at the 1976 Summer Olympics.
In 1926, the Congress of the International Amateur Athletics Federation selected a board of trustees to draw up worldwide guidelines for field handball.
