Rugby Sevens at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics will be scheduled from 26 July to 31 July, 2021 at the Tokyo Stadium. In Rugby Sevens at the Tokyo 2020 a total of 24 teams will compete.

The men’s and women’s rugby sevens tournament will take place at the iconic Tokyo stadium, which is 2019 RWC host venue. The men session will take place July 26 to 28, 2021 and the women session will take place July 29 to August 31, 2021.

There will be two sessions on every challenge day. The morning session will commence at 9 AM Japan Standard Time [JST] and run until early afternoon JST and the night session will start at 4:30 PM and finish at 7 PM. The award matches will happen at night sessions.

Note : - Important Changes : 
In a reverse to the 2016 schedule, the men's competition will be played first over three days from July 26-28 with the women's competition taking place from July 29 through 31 and culminating with the gold medal session on "Super Saturday".

A total of 12 team’s qualify for the men’s rugby sevens at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. Japan automatic qualifies as a host nation, with the top 4 teams of the 2019 World Rugby Seven series confirm their spots.

On June 20-21, 2020 a 12 team repechage tournament will be held. Two runner ups from each of the six tournaments will play, with winner advancing to the Olympic tournament. The city of Biarritz, France has applied to host the tournament.
